About referees

  • Each game must include one main referee and two assistant referee’s. The job of the referee is to act as time keeper and make any decisions which may need to be made such as fouls, free kicks, throw ins, penalties and added on time at the end of each half. The referee may consult the assistant referees at any time in the match regarding a decision. It’s the assistant referee’s job to spot offside’s in the match, throw ins for either team and also assist the referee in all decision making processes where appropriate.

The referee will interrupt the game if he considers that a player suffered a serious injury, and may continue the game if in his opinion the injury is slight. The player must leave the playing field and may return to the same with the authorization of the referee. They can do it anywhere in the field with the ball stopped or by the sideline with the ball in play as long as it does not influence it.

In this case there are the following exceptions:

  • An injured goalkeeper must not leave the field
  • A player who hits a goalkeeper must not leave the field.
  • Two players from the same team that collide with each other must not leave the field.
  • If a team is with the minimum number of players, an injured player must not leave the field.
